Fear
Insidious, it beats against me,
Drawing me into its darkness.
Against all rational thought-
The realities cannot survive the imagination.
It crawls through my consciousness
Pulsing through my bloodstream
A tingling in my hands and feet
Centering in my chest, a weight against my heart
Even as I know it is nothing but fear;
The worst I can imagine,
Not really happening,
Just swirling like the thickest fog
Sucking me in
Making me doubt myself and that I know to be truth.

Boy did this ever hit close to home. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
I can feel the pressure on my heart while I read it...
I get a shiver just reading, it's much to easy to feel those exact situations
Neat... I just don't have any other words. I get it. I've been here. And yet... and yet...
"The realities cannot survive the imagination.
It crawls through my consciousness
Pulsing through my bloodstream"
This is so relatable! For no rhyme or reason fears takes over our psyche.
Great wok.
Geez - this is the Poetry Train to the Twilight Zone this week. Y'all have go to stop freaking me out with these poems that hit like solid punches.
Fabulous Loo!
This made me shiver:
"The worst I can imagine,
Not really happening,
Just swirling like the thickest fog
Sucking me in
Making me doubt myself and that I know to be truth."
thank you all for your comments. one of the things i've always used poetry for is dealing with my own emotions. fear is one of those things that hits you, against all rational thought. i'm glad you could feel that in the poem. thank you.
